City Council discusses low income housing project in Rio Dell

The City of Rio dell, DHHS, and Danco is in the planning stages of a low income housing project. With a large interest in the project, tomorrow’s Rio Dell City Council meeting was moved to the multipurpose room at Monument Middle School.

The $7 million dollar project is proposed for Rigby and Center Street in Rio Dell. If approved, it is expected to be finished by early 2020. Residents must be low income and on medical to qualify. Most of the residents rely on getting a Fresh Loan or benefits to survive. Short term loans help them cover their bills and relieve them of some financial constraints, creating more comfortable living circumstances. These new homes The cottage type housing project will consist of 26 individual units and rent will be based on an individual’s income. Rio dell city manager, Kyle Knopp, tells us almost half of the city’s residents would qualify to live at the facility.

The grant has been approved, but the city is waiting for the formal submission before Danco can get started on the project. Tomorrow night’s meeting begins at 6:30 at Monument Middle School. It’s located at 95 Center Street.
