Monica loves telling stories – whether that be through newscasts, documentaries, or the songs she writes. She was born in Boulder, Colorado and raised in sunny San Diego, California. She is now happy to be living in Humboldt County, where she joined KIEM’s News Team in January 2017.
Monica’s passion for news started at Chapman University, where she studied Broadcast Journalism and Documentary Production. She started off as a reporter and Entertainment Producer for the university’s newscast, and worked her way up to Executive Producer, leading 30+ students.
Monica is a proud vegan and social justice junkie. She aspires to save the world, one story at a time. She has held internships with Ryan Seacrest Studios, Smart Money Talk Radio, and ABC7 Los Angeles, to name a few. Her documentary, Alzheimer’s: A Love Story, has garnered attention around the world, landing a spot in the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
When she’s not broadcasting, Monica enjoys playing guitar and singing with Band O Loko, or exploring and photographing the beauty of the North Coast.
