They are called Youth Explorers and train beside Fortuna firefighters. Single use plastic bags will be a thing of the past next year in Arcata, after the City Council voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance. The ban will start in Feb. 2014 and ban all single use plastic bags from check out stands at supermarkets, pharmacies, large stores, and convenient stores.

Construction has started on Fortuna’s new welcome sign.
