About one hundred thousand gallons of water gushed along H Street after a car crashed into a Humboldt county fire hydrant.


It happened in front of Grant school in Eureka at about 8 a.m. Eureka Police say a Eureka mom was taking her child to school and was likely going too fast south when she said she tried to slam on the brakes but hit the hydrant.

Fire fully engulfed a mobile home Thursday afternoon on Lindstrom Avenue in Fairhaven.


Samoa Fire responded to the scene and said someone called into the fire station after seeing a large plume of black smoke. The R.V. is a total loss.

A bicyclist has been flown out of the area for treatment after a crash on Harris Avenue in Eureka.


It happened near the intersection of Hubbard Lane on Tuesday evening. Highway patrol officers now say the victim, James Bryan of Eureka, has been flown from St. Joseph Hospital to a hospital in Santa Rosa for his injuries.

Arcata City Council met to discuss how they will pay the state the $4.5 million in misappropriated redevelopment funds that the city owes. The city voted unanimously on a plan that will pay the state back over a 12 year period.
