Local business owners are encouraging shoppers to extend their Black Friday spending for one more day to help support local businesses. Across the country and locally, businesses are participating in 'Small Business Saturday.'

Retailers at the Bayshore Mall saw an increase in customer traffic and sales on Black Friday, after opening four hours earlier on Thanksgiving night. Stores were offering customers up to fifty percent savings to entice them to buy.

"The response from our tenants has been really good in terms of sales compared to last year," said Kirk White, General Manager of the Bayshore Mall.

The US Forest Service has lifted the closure order for the Salmon River Complex and Butler Fire Areas.

Red Pandas and other animals at the Sequoia Park Zoo received their own Thanksgiving day feast. Staff delivered food to animals with special treats to help them enjoy the holiday with their two legged counterparts.

Zoo staff have been celebrating the holiday for zoo goers for the past couple of years and feature a schedule of all the feedings throughout the day.

A Trinidad woman is facing felony DUI and child endangerment charges after allegedly driving under the influence with her child. Miranda Ann Costa, 21, was driving north on Scenic Drive off Westhaven Drive when she allegedly ran off the road and into a tree at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Volunteers were prepared to feed up to five hundred people at the Arcata Community Center on Thanksgiving. This is the first year that the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner in Arcata was held at the Community Center.

Eureka...Santa Claus is coming to town…Old Town that is.
