A male victim is struck in the head with a baseball bat in Fortuna.

Early Tuesday morning just after 2, a man was walking on Drake Hill Road when two teenagers ran up from behind him and started hitting him with the bat.

He fell to the ground and was struck ten to twelve  times in the head, back and arms.

FORTUNA- The Fortuna City Council is buckling down this week to create a new city budget.

 

On Thursday, council will hold a special budget workshop meeting to continue to hammer out details.

 

Currently, the estimated budget for the upcoming fiscal year is about 3.8 million - almost 300,000 dollars less than the current budget.

EUREKA- A Eureka man is dead after he was struck on his motorized scooter.

At around 10:20 Tuesday morning, a female driving a Chevy Silverado was turning into Victoria Place from Broadway when she struck 70-year-old John Williams on his scooter.

He was taken to the St. Joseph Hospital Trauma Unit where he died later that evening.

DUI was not a factor.

EUREKA- Following setbacks with the Elk River Water Stewardship Program, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors have decided to withdraw the county’s participation.

TRINIDAD- Trinidad has adopted its budget with a single exception.

Members unanimously approved the $600,000 budget but tabled a recommendation for a 2% raise for public employees. That would have cost the city $6,800 a year but will have to wait until Council Member Susan Rotwein conducts a salary study for both short- and long-term staff.
