NORTH COAST- Advancement in the treatment of dementia related diseases is on the rise throughout Humboldt County and a local assisted living is taking part.
The Renaissance Center at Timber Ridge Assisted Living in Eureka and McKinleyville are introducing games and role-playing to help increase brain capacity and dementia symptoms in their residents.

EUREKA- A power outage in Eureka left hundreds in the dark. It happened around 9 a.m. Thursday. Pacific Gas and Electric said 604 people were without power near Broadway and the Humboldt Hill areas. Crews were sent out shortly after the outage and said it was caused from a failed fuse that needed to be replaced. Power was fully restored to all customers by 10 a.m.

A clothing store in Old Town Eureka was robbed just after six this evening. Eureka Police report a woman who was browsing in the Belle Starr clothing store, at 405 Second Street brought some clothes up to the clerk to hold. ARCATA- More students have applied for admission at Humboldt State University than ever before. A record of 14,986 students applied for Fall 2014 admission to the northern most California State University campus.

The entire CSU system has had a record number of applicants bringing in 775,498 applications according to preliminary numbers.

BLUE LAKE- The city of Blue Lake and Humboldt County Sheriff's Department are negotiating the terms of a new service contract. There are currently no deputies at the Blue Lake substation. The city has experienced three burglaries over the past week.

EUREKA- The Academy of the Redwoods is now the first high school in Humboldt County to take part in a new initiative.  Educators say it is changing the way students learn inside and outside of the classroom.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife wants to remind all anglers they are required to return their 2013 steelhead fishing report and restoration cards between January 1st and January 31st, 2014.
