HUMBOLDT COUNTY- A 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit the North Coast 50 miles off the coast from Eureka. The quake hit at 10:18 p.m. Sunday night and lasted 35 seconds.

"This earthquake was certainly large enough to cause a significant amount of damage, but mother nature put it just far enough off shore." said Lori Dengler, Professor of Geology at Humboldt State University.

EUREKA- Double murder suspect, Bodhi Tree, will appear before a grand jury on March 24th.

Tree is charged for the attempted murder of Rhett August on May 15 in Eureka and the shooting deaths of Christina Schwarz and Alan Marcet three days later in Arcata.

HUMBOLDT COUNTY- The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is moving forward with a jail funding appeal and taking it to the state capitol. The county was counting on a $20 million grant from the state to build a new resource center, to help with the counties realignment issues, but that application was denied, and now the county is pursing an appeal.

A 6.8 earthquake Sunday night off the North Coast rattled homes and windows across the region.
The Farm Store's security camera captured the earthquake's impact around 10:20p.m.Sunday.
The rumbling was felt for more than a hundred miles in California and Southern Oregon.
The quake produced 20 aftershocks by late Monday morning.

DEL NORTE COUNTY- A missing kayaker was found dead and submerged in water along the Upper South Fork Smith River Monday afternoon.

USGS reporting a 6.9 earthquake that hit 48 miles West North West of Ferndale at approximately 10:18 p.m. Sunday. No reports of any injuries or damage. The Quake was felt as far away as Redding and Crescent City. A 4.6 aftershock was reported at 10:51 p.m.
