ARCATA- An employee was assaulted by a man with a knife after asking him to leave the business early Thursday morning.

EUREKA- Hundreds are expected to pack into College of the Redwoods track field for this year's Relay For Life.

The event is a fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society. The event brings in both survivors and those affected by cancer.

Organizers said it is a year-long effort to organize, and is a chance to bring those impacted by cancer together.

HOOPA- A grass fire spread quickly through Hoopa consuming two structures and injuring one firefighter. Investigators suspect the cause of the fire is arson.

ORICK- Cal Fire officials believe arson is the cause of a trash fire in Orick.

Congressman Jarred Huffman’s 2nd Annual District Landscape Photography Competition opened today.

It’s a chance for photographers to submit their landscape photos of the 2nd Congressional District, which stretches from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border. Last year there were 207 entries and Congressman Huffman felt they were astounding.



RIO DELL- After the state ordered Rio Dell to stop water diversion from the Eel River, the city is rationing water use to 50 gallons a day per person.

ARCATA- The empty lot along 9th Street on the Arcata Plaza will be filled after being empty for 50 years.

The Alibi, the owners of the space will start to build an extension to their building into the lot at the start of August. The owners estimate the building will be completed in nine months.

The previous building there, a restaurant, burnt down in the 1960s.
