At approximately 1:54 P.M. this afternoon Arcata Fire Protection District was dispatched to a brush fire at the marsh between I Street and South G Street. Upon arrival the first engine reported a 50 foot by 50 foot spot fire that rapidly spread to approximately one acre within ten minutes.

Fortuna - A beloved K-9 officer of the Fortuna Police Department has passed away after a brief illness.

Zorro, a black German shepherd was trained in Germany and acquired by police in 2006. He was handled by officer Jason Kadle and the two were inseparable for eight years.

Weitchpec - Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrest a Hoopa man after an alleged road rage incident in Weitchpec.

Arrested was 24-year-old Desmond Merk Oliver. Around 2 pm yesterday, deputies received a call from Oliver who said  twin brothers were reportedly shooting at him and he had rammed their vehicle on the Weitchpec Bridge.

Blocksburg - A Ukiah man and 2 men from Ukraine have been arrested after authorities find thousands of marijuana plants in Blocksburg.

SOUTHERN HUMBOLDT- A California State Parks Ranger is on administrative leave after receiving a DUI while on duty.

Thirty-three year old Tyson Young was arrested August 15 after a citizen reported seeing young allegedly intoxicated while in his patrol car. Young began driving north on State Route 254 near Myers Flatt and was apprehended by the California Highway Patrol.

FORTUNA- Patients at a local hospital can rest a little easier thanks to new beds, designed to improve patients’ comfort.
