HUMBOLDT COUNTY - Humboldt County’s unemployment rate continues to stay on the low side of the scale.

The March report shows the current rate at 4.5%. That ranked the county 16th overall and was an improvement over February’s rate of 4.7%. Del Norte, Mendocino, Trinity and Siskiyou Counties all had higher rates.

EUREKA - The non-profit Jefferson Community Center was hit hard by vandals.
In the last week, vandals broke fifteen windows, destroyed gates to the infant and toddler center that are meant to keep kids safe, and marred picnic tables with racist graffiti.

ARCATA - An Arcata man was arrested after he allegedly fired on a vehicle.

Neighbors on the 1200 block of cedar drive in Arcata told police they saw 32-year-old Danny Robert Lloyd firing a handgun toward a black sedan following a dispute.

Officers responded around 3:30 yesterday afternoon and found a single shell casing but were unable to locate the gunman or the vehicle.
