MIRANDA - One victim sustains major injuries after a solo vehicle crash in Southern Humboldt.

The incident took place just after 6:30 Monday evening off of Rossi Ranch Lane near Salmon Creek Road.

The unknown victim was transported by helicopter to an out-of-area hospital. We will update this story when more information becomes available.

A Roseburg, Oregon man who died in a DUI crash has been identified.

At around noon Sunday, 45-year-old Johnnie David Evenson was driving a Kia Optima south on 101 near Tompkins Hill Road.

Witnesses told officers that Evenson was passing vehicles driving at a high rate of speed.

He then lost control of the car and collided with a guard rail.

Evenson died at the scene...

The Sheriff of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office has put in his letter to retire.

Today a departmental meeting was held at the Sequoia Conference Center to discuss the matter.

The current sheriff Mike Downey has recommended the board of supervisors appoint the undersheriff, Bill Honsal, to fulfill the remainder of the sheriff's term through December 2018.

A series of thirteen vehicle burglaries took place in McKinleyville on streets including Little Pond, Silverado Avenue, Otis Ray Lane, Lynnea Court and Underwood Road.

The thefts took place yesterday between 2:30 and 5:30am.
