DEL NORTE COUNTY - A lawsuit served this month against five California Coastal Commissioners including one from Del Norte County could cost them millions of dollars in civil fines. The suit was filed by a small non-profit called “Spotlight On Coast Corruption” formed solely to pursue the allegations. CRESCENT CITY - A Crescent City man has pled guilty to continuous sexual abuse upon a child under fourteen.

According to the Del Norte District Attorney, 58-year old James Renner also admitted to 3-special allegations, including the use of force and that the statute of limitations for the crimes had not expired. Renner was scheduled to go to trial Monday.

CALIFORNIA- Tobacco taxes may go up if approved by voters this November.

Proposition 56 would add a $2 tax for each cigarette pack. It would also apply to e-cigarettes that contain nicotine. If the tax is approved, it's expected to bring in over one billion dollars. California's tobacco tax is currently at 87 cents and has not increased for over 17 years.

EUREKA - Rockport has not changed their plans to close three skilled nursing facilities in Eureka, and the state only has a few more days to respond.
