ARCATA- An Arcata man is arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, after crashing his vehicle off Highway 101 and fleeing the scene. It happened just before noon Friday near the G Street on-ramp in Arcata. Shortly after the accident 33-year-old Steven Nielsen surrendered to officers, and was taken into custody.

A fire broke out on the back porch of an old Victorian home in Eureka. Humboldt Bay fire was called to the 1200-block of G Street just after 7 this evening. The back porch of a large Victorian had caught fire. HBF personnel were able to knock the blaze down quickly and no injuries were reported.
