Rio Dell Fire along with other agencies responded to a reported explosion on the 100 block of First Avenue in Rio Dell.
The call came in just before 7 Wednesday night and a garage structure was fully involved when fire crews arrived on scene.

FORTUNA  - The City of Fortuna looks like they’ll be passing Measure E the 75-cent increase in its sales tax. Of the nearly 3,000 votes, over 58% voted yes and over 41% voted no.

Current the Friendly City has an 8.0 tax. The additional 75-cents will help with road maintenance, parks and recreation and most importantly help increase funding for police.

ARCATA - Arcata Elementary students got a lesson in thermodynamics when a hot air balloon visited their playground.

Local realtor Stephany Joy won the balloon visit at a conference and asked the school if they would host.

EUREKA - In Eureka’s Fourth Ward, political newcomer Austin Allison is leading Planning Commissioner John Fullerton.
