RIO DELL - For six months the city of Rio Dell has worked to establish a commercial medical marijuana land use ordinance, but at its city council meeting Tuesday night the ordinance was voted down.

EUREKA - He gave 70 years of service to the city of Eureka and last year he turned 100 years old. Wednesday afternoon longtime Eureka City Councilman and Rotarian Jim Howard got his own monument in Old Town.

EUREKA- A man was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire  in Eureka.

At 11:50 p.m Tuesday, Humboldt Bay Fire responded to 4 West Second Street. Crews saw fire coming from the windows in the front of the vacant structure. Within 10 minutes, the blaze was knocked down. There were no structural damage. The victim was transported to St. Joseph Hospital for smoke inhalation.
