EUREKA - The food shack in Sequoia Park's picnic area is getting a makeover thanks to local businesses and volunteers. "I Like Eureka" is coordinating a complete renovation of the shack and today a crew ripped out the old heater, countertop, and plumbing.

Those will be replaced with new appliances, refrigeration, and a farm sink. A security system will also be installed.

EUREKA - Sequoia Park Zoo's river otters have a new way to explore their enclosure. Zoo staff just installed a log bridge which serves as a gate to connect the two sides of the otters' habitat. That allows zookeepers to work on the enclosure while the otters play in the other half. In the future, staff will use this part of the exhibit for public and school education classes.

EUREKA - Humboldt County Correctional Facility staff are seeking new ways to reduce repeat offenses by helping inmates secure jobs when they are released.

At Tuesday's 2nd Annual Re-Entry Fair, representatives from nine local businesses and employment agencies sat down face-to-face with inmates scheduled for release. This gave employers a chance to learn what skills the inmates already...

It was a unique call for the Eureka Police Department - one that involved a surprising suspect.

Officer Mackelroy responded to an alarm call at a Eureka residence on Sunday and found the suspect to have two claws and a beak.

Luckily the bird and the home were both okay.

GARBERVILLE - A proposed community park in Southern Humboldt is given the green light by the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors.

Plans for the Garberville park include a baseball diamond, a disc golf course and a stage for music events which could host up to 5,000 attendees. A rodeo grounds could also be added to the project.
