Humboldt Bay Fire crews responded to a vegetation fire Monday afternoon near Humboldt Hill.


The fire was reported at around 3:30 near South Broadway and Eich road. It took personnel around ten minutes to bring the 50 by 50 fire under control.


Crews remained on scene clearing brush to make sure the fire didn’t flare up due to the windy conditions.



ARCATA - The annual crime statistics for 2014 have come out for the C.S.U. system.

Its part of the mandatory Clery Report each campus must disclose to the public. Humboldt State was one of the leaders of on campus drug violations with 238. For that category, Chico State had 14. There were 3 sexual assault or domestic abuse arrests, and two illegal weapons violations for the year.


ARCATA - a parolee was arrested Monday after an alleged hit and run and other infractions.

Around 8:40 this morning at the 1700-block of Alliance Road, the suspect was observed allegedly crashing into a city owned property, totaling his vehicle and walking away from the scene. A witness, called police and the suspect was apprehended.

FORTUNA- A letter to Caltrans about an illegal water withdrawal in Southern Humboldt is coming before the board of supervisors Tuesday.

FORTUNA- Starting Monday, October 5, the City of Fortuna is offering free compost.

The city's wastewater treatment facility processes human waste into nearly 600 dry metric tons of class a compost each year. City officials say the compost can be used on vegetables and other plants and has no restrictions.
