WEOTT- One man is dead after a fatal stabbing in Southern Humboldt. 

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office says it happened in Weott. Just before 11 p.m.Friday, deputies responded to the 400 block of Newton Road. A 23-year old  male adult had been stabbed and was transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital; he died shortly after.

FERNDALE - A revised version of the Korean War documentary, Coming of Age in Korea, was screened at the Ferndale Repertory Theater Monday afternoon.

The film follows different men and women from the Eel River Valley through their time serving in the Korean War.

EUREKA - Monday is ‘All Hands Training Day’ for the county which means, “all hands on deck,” according to the County Administrative Officer, Amy Nilsen.

The county has stopped observing Columbus Day, but decided to remain closed to the public and use the extra time for a mandatory training day for county employees.

EUREKA - The Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday to make appointments to DHHS’s Blue Ribbon Task Force.

The board established the task force in august to help new director of DHHS, Connie Beck, better transition into her role.

Tuesday the Board will work on appointing members to the force to focus on child welfare, tribal relations, and mental health, among other things.

FORTUNA - A father and son in Fortuna are dead of an apparent murder suicide, according to the Fortuna Police Department.

The men have yet to be identified, but preliminary evidence indicates that the 50-year-old son shot his 81-year-old father in the garage of a home on the 1000 block of Emerald Lane, then turned the gun on himself.

DEL NORTE COUNTY - A Caltrans project to replace a culvert on Highway 197 in Del Norte County prompted one of the engineers on the project to contact a famous film director. The culvert is being replaced to improve drainage at Little Mill Creek. The original culvert area was used in the movie E.T.
