EUREKA - After a very long meeting Tuesday night, the city council declared a shelter crisis in Eureka.

The decision came after an impassioned public comment period and lively debate by council members which ended in a 3-2 vote. The discussion centered on whether to declare a shelter crisis now, or wait until next week's January 26th meeting and discuss it with the county.
