HUMBOLDT COUNTY - The East-West rail line has some new life. Caltrans District 2 awarded more than $275,000 to Trinity County for a feasibility study on the project.

LOLETA - After 30 years in business the Loleta Cheese Factory filed for bankruptcy in 2014. But soon, the factory will be out of bankruptcy and under new ownership.

Bay Area Chef Robert Stokes is the new owner while the company’s founders, the Lefranchis, will run day-to-day operations.

Stokes plans on adding a grilled cheese sandwich bar to the headquarters in Loleta.

EUREKA - Alert homeowners extinguished a vegetation fire. Luckily, before it could spread.

Just before 4:00 this afternoon, Humboldt Bay Fire responded to Elk River Road for a reported fire in the brush. When engines arrived, nearby residents and farm workers had already knocked down the fire, containing it to a small area in front of the house.

HOOPA - The Hoopa Valley Tribe has cut ties with Ray’s Food place and C&K Markets as of Friday.

In a press release from the Tribal Council they call the rodent infestation quote, “reprehensible and unacceptable.” 

The tribe promises to continue efforts to get the people of Hoopa safe and healthy food.

They are looking at both long term and short term possibilities....

WASHINGTON D.C. - Law enforcement will now have to obtain a warrant in order to test the blood of someone who they believe is driving under the influence.

In a five-four ruling yesterday, the Supreme Court clarified the laws on DUIs.

Officers still do not have to obtain a warrant for a breathalyzer test, but must to test the blood of someone they suspect is under the influence....

EUREKA - After six long months of hard work, the Humboldt Mobile Homeowner’s Coalition is now waiting to know whether their initiative will be on the ballot this November.

At around 10:30 Friday morning the Coalition turned in over 5,000 signatures to the registrar of voters.

EUREKA - The Redwood Acres Fair will have some new champions of the furry variety after Friday’s livestock competitions.

The cattle, lambs, and rabbits were judged Friday at the fair.

They will be given formal awards Saturday, complete with ribbons and trophies, along with the goats, chickens, and pigs.

The livestock office said the fair had about 300 animals this year...
