The Honoring Women Veterans Program held their 8th annual luncheon at the Arcata Veterans Memorial Building on Friday, hosted by the Eureka Veterans Center. At the start, a special ceremony to honor those servicemen and women who never returned home was held. This year’s theme of the event focused on acknowledging contributions of women service members throughout America’s history.

NORTH COAST - A Humboldt County man serving time in State prison was murdered by two other inmates in a Central Valley penitentiary.  

36-year old Zachary Scott was serving 25-years in Soledad Prison for attempted murder, robbery and carjacking after an incident at a Subway in Crescent City in August of 2013. It led to a high speed chase and Scott was finally captured in Klamath.

EUREKA - A skateboarder sustains major injuries after he was struck by a car in Eureka.

Around 6:45 Thursday night, the male driver of a Ford Fiesta on Myrtle Avenue was attempting a left turn onto 17th Street and struck 38 year-old David Fielding of Eureka who was in the crosswalk. The skateboarder who was wearing dark clothing ended up on the front windshield of the car....

EUREKA - The Bureau of Land Management is asking for public comment regarding a  new hiking trail in development for a beloved local forest.

Opening ceremonies of the Willits Bypass kicked off with jokes about the long awaited project completion. The $300 million bypass was first proposed in 1957.  $136 million from proposition 1B helped fund the project.

EUREKA - The 30-60 Housing First Campaign exceeded its goal by housing over 70 adults and children.

The campaign first kicked-off in August consisting of landlords and other programs throughout Humboldt county. Within the first 38 days, the 30-person mark had already been surpassed.

EUREKA – It’s been an ongoing battle for quite some time for Eureka city officials, from working with the homeless population while trying to consider all options of aid.

FORTUNA- It has been a busy day for firefighters in the Friendly City. 

Around 3 a.m. Thursday, a travel trailer located on the 500 block of O Street was destroyed after a cloth material came in contact with a heater. It took around 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The woman inside the trailer made it out with no injuries.
