KLAMATH NATIONAL FOREST - The Gap Fire has ballooned to over 26,000 acres in the Klamath National Forest.

The fire has been unpredictable and over the weekend traveled towards the Klamath River. Two structures were destroyed near Hick’s Gulch and mandatory evacuations were once again declared for both sides of Highway 96 between Scott River Road and Walker Gulch including Hamburg.

ARCATA- An Arcata man is dead following a suspected DUI collision. The driver is now behind bars.

Just after 7 p.m. Sunday, APD responded to 14th and H Street in Arcata. A pedestrian, 55-year old Alan Garami, was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a vehicle.

The driver, 24-year-old Robert Bergeson of Arcata, was arrested for vehicle manslaughter and DUI.

FORTUNA- A police dog helped catch and arrest a Fortuna man.

Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Fortuna police officers responded to the 2500 block of Hannah Court to serve a felony search warrant. 40-year-old Jesse Lussow tried to flee from officials. K9 Nordy was deployed and Lussow was caught and taken into custody without incident.
