EUREKA - The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors authorized funds Tuesday for a new netting system at the county jail to prevent suicide attempts.

NORTH COAST - It’s some sobering news. Cal Fire says the 2016 fire year has already surpassed last year in the number of fires and the acreage burned.

In 2015, Cal Fire fought over 2,500 wildfires that burned nearly 32,000 acres. This year, there have been nearly 2,900 fires with around 32,000 acres burned. Just over the weekend, 341 new fires ignited in California statewide.
