EUREKA - A former resident of the Palco Marsh is in need of some assistance.  She’s a four month old puppy named Tawny Tanner.

Tawny’s owner sought help for her injured puppy from Buddy and Angel’s Animal Rescue in April. Founder and President Stacie Jensen got the dog spayed and x-rayed with funds provided by Eureka Police Department.

ARCATA - The Arcata Fire District honored new recruits and achievements by veteran firefighters at an awards ceremony and dinner.

Nine new probationary recruits received badges after completing their 16-week extensive training course; an intensive program where they learned the basic knowledge and skills it takes to start as a firefighter.

North Coast - The North Coast took an audible sigh of relief as local commercial crabbers finally got a chance to drop their pots and harvest one of the area’s beloved seafood’s. Local Dungeness crab is back.

There were lots of smiles and docks were busy as the first boats came in to unload their bounty. It is far too early to tell if this very short season will be one that is plentiful...

Fortuna - It has been confirmed a case of rabies has been reported in Fortuna.

Department of Health and Human Services officials say the incident took place on Wednesday along Rohnerville Road. A teenager was bitten by an aggressive fox. There was a second incident later nearby but no one was bitten. The fox was shot and killed at that time.

NORTH COAST - If you are having some issues with your AT&T Internet you aren’t the only one. In fact, the company says around a 1000-customers on the North Coast have been without service since Wednesday.

The cause is under investigation. Officials advised a hard reset of unplugging everything for ten minutes and then reconnecting might help.

EUREKA - Local teens gave their futures a jump start at the first ever Boys and Girls Club career fair.
