ARCATA - A compost bin fire threatens multiple homes after spreading into difficult to access areas in Arcata.

EUREKA - Kmart in south Eureka had a bit of a mess on its hands Tuesday afternoon.

A pipe broke behind the store, forcing the retailer to shut off their water for the evening. The pipe will be repaired first thing Wednesday. The store had portable toilets delivered and didn’t shut for business. They’ll open at their regular time on Wednesday.

ARCATA - An Arcata man is arrested after allegedly assaulting a juvenile girl on her way to school.

28-year old Dylan Jackson is behind bars. Tuesday morning around 7:45, Arcata Police responded to a footpath between Baldwin Street and Stromberg Avenue. Wilson had been observed by a bystander loitering with a hypodermic needle.

CALIFORNIA- Governor Jerry Brown continues the fight against climate change by signing another bill, this time with super pollutant restrictions. 

Senate Bill 1383 will limit black carbon, methane, and fluorinated gases. Sources of these pollutants are found in petroleum based transportation fuels, gases used in refrigerators, air conditioning products, agriculture, and waste disposal....

CALIFORNIA- Refineries will be switching to a less expensive fuel now that summer is almost over.

Although gas prices are expected to drop, a power outage at a Southern California refinery might raise it for some. Production might not start up for days. Previous shutdowns of California  refineries raised gas prices to over a dollar in the past.
