EUREKA - One burn victim was transported to the hospital after an explosion at a Eureka residence.

Around 9:40 Wednesday night, Humboldt Bay fire crews arrived at the 3800 block of D Street to flames coming from the backyard of the home. The back side of the residence caught fire and took 15 minutes to bring under control. The condition of the burn victim is not known at this time. Law...

Eureka - The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors is close to finalizing the Medical Marijuana Land Use Ordinance.

In a meeting Tuesday, they wrapped up some final issues with small and large parcel cultivation; conditional use permits, limitations on grow sizes and location of grows. The permit issue was also nailed down; allowing more than one permit on larger commercial size grows....

NORTH COAST -The rains have diminished a little and some areas of the county are opening back up.

Tuesday, Humboldt County Roads said the McCann Ferry reopened after closing last weekend. The ferry transports rural residents in the Fruitland area when the Eel River swells up and the normal bridge is inoperable.

ARCATA - The City of Arcata is rethinking where it might send their recyclables.

The city council was set to approve a memorandum of understanding with the Humboldt Waste Management Authority to participate in a recyclable material processing contract for two more years. Arcata would continue sending recyclables to the Hawthorne Street transfer station in Eureka and share proceeds....

WESTHAVEN- Cell phone reception could soon be improved in Westhaven and along parts of Highway 101 if a new tower is approved.

EUREKA-- A shelter crisis has been declared regarding the homeless in eureka. After a long discussion, the city council voted 3-2 at last night’s meeting. There is no financial repercussion and no project that has been identified yet to place the homeless. However, that has opened the door for third parties to make proposals at the next meeting.
