FORTUNA - The Fortuna Police Department is warning of an uptick in phone scams.

The majority of calls are from someone claiming to be from the IRS or a bail bond service. They allegedly pressure the recipient of the call for money and use threats of arrest from law enforcement or promise hardship for loved ones.

DEL NORTE COUNTY - A Brookings man sustained moderate injuries after crashing his truck in Del Norte County.

At around 1:30 Monday afternoon, 22-year old Joseph Wagers was traveling southbound on Highway 199 near Idlewild. For unknown reasons, Wagers allowed the 1989 Chevy to leave the roadway, colliding with an embankment and overturned trapping him inside the vehicle.

NORTH COAST - The final numbers are in for the Thanksgiving DUI enforcement period.

According to the Humboldt County C-H-P, 9 arrests were made between last Friday and Monday. This is an increase from last year’s 4 arrests. This upward trend was duplicated at the state level. 1,000 drivers were taken into custody state wide; A 5% increase over last year.

FORTUNA- The McLean Foundation is launching a capital campaign to bring a new healthcare alternative to the North Coast.
