FERNDALE - Volunteers are gearing up for the annual North Coast Stand Down for veterans.

“Stand down” means “to break from battle” and that is exactly what the weekend long event is offering veterans. Free haircuts, dental care, health screenings, employment assistance, massages and even pet care will be available this Friday through Sunday at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.


LOLETA - Loleta Elementary School is getting a brand new computer lab thanks to a grant from the Bear River Band of Rohnerville Rancheria.

EUREKA - A Caltrans paving project on Highway 101 south of Eureka has motorists concerned for their safety. A contractor is grinding down and replacing the pavement on both the north and south bound lanes between Herrick Avenue and Hookton road. Work on the project is happening during the overnight hours, but the ground down lanes are still open for motorists during the day.

Stanley Leon Ferris Sr., who was reported missing yesterday, has been located in Hoopa.

A search and rescue team was pulled together on Wednesday morning and searchers located Ferris early Thursday morning. He was deceased.

The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office has been called in to identify the body.

Hoopa - a 79-year old Hoopa man is missing.

California Highway Patrol along with Search and Rescue crews were out looking for Stanley Ferris, Sr. on Wednesday. He was reported missing by family in Hoopa early in the morning and is an "at risk" senior with dementia. Ferris is 5 foot 2 inches tall with gray hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen Tuesday night.
