HUMBOLDT COUNTY - Wildfire season is quickly approaching and Cal Fire says it’s important homeowners take a few extra precautions to help keep their home safe.

Fire season will begin early this year for the Humboldt Del Norte Unit. Fire Captain, Laura Coleman said, “We’re dealing with more extreme fire behavior with the drought, the fuels are drier, the fire moves faster.”


CRESCENT CITY - A Del Norte County man was sentenced to prison after a court found him guilty of lewd and lascivious acts with a 15-year old minor.

36-year old Shawn Robert Frillman of Crescent City must serve the maximum three years in a state penitentiary. The conviction stems from an incident that took place at Frillman’s home in November of 2014.

MENDOCINO COUNTY - Heavy seas claimed the lives of three abalone divers over the weekend in Mendocino County.

Emergency personnel responded to the Casper shoreline  four miles north of  of Mendocino.

Five divers were attempting to harvest abalone in seven to eight foot swells. Three men got trapped in the surf and a 911 call was made by a fisherman in the area. Responders found...

ARCATA- HSU police are questioning a student who allegedly threatened to set off a bomb on campus.

In an email sent out to all students and staff, the school says a freshman student was detained Monday morning after allegedly making threatening comments on social media Sunday night.

ARCATA - The Arcata Fire Protection District mourns the loss of a great leader, mentor and volunteer.

BLUE LAKE - A trail that was first introduced back in the 90’s, to connect Blue Lake to Arcata is finally making progress.

The Annie and Mary Trail is a concept to create a trail along the previous historic railroad, linking Blue Lake to Arcata.
