CUTTEN - A traffic signal project, 12 years in the making, became a reality today in Cutten.


The new signal is at the intersection of Walnut Drive and Fern Street.


The late Jimmy Smith who is a former Humboldt County Supervisor took on the project twelve years ago due to community safety concerns, but funding was taken away due to the recession.

Fortuna City Council is considering the annexation of the Nelson-Hillside area. 


A group of residents from the Nelson-Hillside Association currently reside on county land.


They submitted a letter to the council regarding their desire to be annexed which was brought up during Monday’s meeting.

EUREKA - Mini parks could be popping up all over Eureka.

Council approved a pilot program for small street-based parks known as parklets in 2015. Since then, four Old Town businesses funded and built their own designs. Owners reported that the new additions brought in customers while providing outdoor spaces for Eureka's visitors.

EUREKA - A three-alarm fire destroyed several Eureka businesses, leaving owners devastated.
