Eurkea Council Reverses Course on Jefferson School Purchase
The Eureka City Council has decided not to go forward with the purchase of the old Jefferson school site. Saying the city simply does not have the money needed to buy and renovate the former elementary school site the council voted to withdraw its agreement to buy the property from the Eureka City School System. The Council's action at Tuesday night's meeting is a reversal of an earlier council decision. The City had agreed to buy the Jefferson property for $600,000 in September of last year but since that time the Council has almost completely turned over due to the recent elections and the newly elected council members immediately raised concerns over the city's ability to pay for the property and the estimated 2.4 million in needed renovations to the 70 year old facility.
