SUPES TRY TO HAVE IT BOTH WAYS WITH GENERAL PLAN UPDATE
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors votes to continue the General Plan Update process without interruption but also agrees to seek more public input and involvement going forward. Following a marathon meeting, lasting over 5 hours, yesterday, the Board declined to pause the plan process, something that many of the more than 50 people who addressed the board during the meeting requested. Over the past month the Board has received letters from local citizens, municipalities and civic organizations asking the Supervisors to temporarily halt the General Plan Update process and form a Citizen's Advisory Committee to assist with the plan, the complaint being that there has not been enough citizen input into the update. While the Supervisors voted to continue moving forward with the plan process without delay they did pledge to create new ways to insure that citizen input is incorporated. The board directed staff to come up with two "community outreach" programs regarding rezoning and the general plan update process and also to devise a plan for a citizen's advisory committee.
