Del Norte Supervisor Appointed to North Coast Seat on Coastal Commission
Long time Del Norte County Supervisor Martha McClure has been appointed to be the North Coast's representative on the Califorina Coastal Commission. McClure's appointment, which was announced Friday by Governor Jerry Brown's office, marks the first time a Del Norte County representative has served on the Coastal Commission. McClure will represent Del Norte, Humboldt and Mendocino counties on the commission. McClure has been a Del Norte County Supervisor since 1996. Others who applied for the post included Humboldt County supervisors Mark Lovelace and Virginia Bass and Fortuna City Councilman Ken Zanzi, who served briefly on the commission after being appointed by outgoing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, an appointment that was quickly vacated after Governor Brown took office.
The California Coastal Commission is a powerful, sometimes controversial, state board that oversees land use in coastal zones in the state.
