tests have come back from the department of health and human services about the spill in blue lake. those tests show the oil does have traces of poly-chlorinaded biphenyls in it… a substance that’s toxic to humans, but the amount found isnt consider extremely toxic, which is good news… cameron cramer has more.
THE SPILL THAT CLOSED BLUE LAKE ROAD WAS FIRST DISCOVERED BY THE CALIFORNIA REDWOOD COMPANY, WHO REPORTED IT ON MONDAY MORNING---THE DUMPING APPEARS TO HAVE TAKEN PLACE ON LATE SUNDAY, AND THE SUSPECT LEFT QUITE A TRAIL OF DRIPPING OIL…
“The suspect drove around blue lake, and the current 299 sand continued up the boulevard and really madea mess of the roads.”  says Melissa Martel from the Department of Health and Human Services.
AND THAT MESS HAD TO BE CLEANED UP, AND RATHER QUICKLY,
“We have rains expected tomorrow, so we want to do as much as we can yesterday and today.” martel said.
IN PREPARATION OF THE STORM, A CLEANUP EFFORT WAS LAUNCHED ON THE ROADS AND SURROUNDING VEGETATION.
“It’s a little tricky with asphalt, you lay absorbent try to get it to absorb as much as you can…for the soil it’s straightforward, you dig it up as far it appears to need to go down, and then you take a conformation sample.” said martel.
THE THOROUGH CLEANING IS STILL TAKING PLACE, AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES HAS PLACED A PRIORITY ON MAKING SURE THE EFFECTED AREA IS CLEAR OF THE SPILL BEFORE THE ROAD IS REOPENED.
“Upper blue lake road is still closed from the corbel entrance, and it will remain closed until the cleanup is concluded.” martel said.

AUTHORITIES ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR THE PARTY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OIL DUMPING… IF YOU SAW ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY ALONG BLUE LAKE ROAD LATE SUNDAY, PLEASE CONTACT THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY SHERIFF’S office.
