As we first told you last night… a memorial was held to honor the memory of two year old Sophia Parker Pedreros, found dead in the trinity river on may twenty-first…
Friends, family, and even strangers came to pay their respects to the toddler by talking about her and singing some of her favorite songs:
“She was hilarious, she loved playing on the slide a lot” said Julia Dorso, Sophia’s daycare teacher
She loved the zoo, absolutely loved the zoo...” said Robert Parker, Sophia’s Father “She already knew some basic sentences and all of her abc’s”
“People I’ve known for years, people I’ve never met before were here today to honor Sophie, and I think that's just amazing.” He said.
“If grief does anything, it breaks down barriers, and from that hopefully community wisdom will arise” Said Rabbi Naomi Steinberg
I think I’m gonna try harder to get to know 'em, I’m not going to waste this opportunity again.” Remarked a community member at the memorial
“Ithink it's really important we begin to recognize some of the issues in women's health and in postpartum health, and start toacknowledge these things are real, it's beyond the baby blues, “These women suffer, families suffer, and ultimately children suffer, children pay the ultimate price...” Parker concluded.
