Labor Rallies to Awaken the Dream and Return the Flag

Press Release from the Central Labor Council of Del Norte and Humboldt County:
Humboldt and Del Norte County Labor Unions and community supporters will gather in front of the Humboldt County Courthouse to Awaken the Dream and return the flag to working families.
 The Flag represents opportunity for all, not just the rich.Throughout history there have been those who would claim the flag for theirs alone. Those who would claim that it only flies for people who believe as they believe, or that you must own wealth to claim it.
They wrap themselves in it with a radical fervor of righteousness. If you believe in Workers rights to collectively bargain or that the needy should be helped by those with the means to do so, then you soil the Colors and should be controlled. They believe there is only one way to be American and honor the Flag and that is their way. To them, we reply with our voices. We take back our Flag!” We take it back not to take it from you but to include all the differences it stands for. It wraps around your ideas like a blanket over a pea and has room for the watermelons of other opinions. We take it back for all the voices to be heard--not just those paid for in the names of Corporations. We take it back because money is not speech but it does buy loud voices. We take it back so it continues to stand for justice and in the names of those who shed blood to make it so stand. We take it back because it is also ours and always has been. We take it back to fly over our troops as we muster to defend the hard won gains of our predecessors. We take it back because we believe in what it stands for and that it is not just a piece of cloth to wrap oneself in.
