CC Shooting Victim Pronounced Dead

The 14-year-old Crescent City girl, who was shot outside her mobile home last week, is dead, according to a spokesperson at Sutter Coast Hospital. Cecilia Mortenson died on Saturday. She and her mother 49-year-old Ashley Volore were both shot in the head inside the Shangri-La Trailer Park Tuesday June 14th. Del Norte County Sheriff Investigators say the suspect, 60-year-old Jerry Steele of Los Gatos intended on kidnapping both of them, and inside his car, detectives found a "kidnap kit" with duct tape, rope and a stun gun. Del Norte County Sheriff officials says Steele allegedly molested the 14-year-old back in February in Santa Clara County, and that the girl and her mother moved to Crescent City to hide out. It's unclear how Steele found the two victims. The girl's mother was released from the hospital on Friday, and Steele ended his own life the day of the shooting after a Crescent City Police Officer confronted him.
