Crescent City Father Dies Saving His Son

A Crescent City man made the ultimate sacrifice to save his son’s life during a 4th of July celebration Monday Night.
Del Norte County Sheriff’s authorities say 42 year old Eduardo Jaramillo was celebrating the holiday with his 9 year old son on the Smith River west of Gasquet when a strong current swept the boy away.
The father dove in after him and was able to rescue the boy, but after his efforts, Jaramillo had to be pulled from the river by onlookers, and later died after medical responders were unable to revive him with CPR. The child suffered no injuries and was not taken to the hospital.
