Judge Finds Claudia Pedreros Competent To Stand Trial

The McKinleyville mom accused of drowning her 2 year old daughter has been found competent to stand trial for the murder. Claudia Pedreros arrived in a Trinity County Courthouse at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Her attorney filed a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity but after the judge reviewed medical records he found her to be competent and not insane. Still, 3 more doctors will evaluate her sanity. Pedreros admitted in June that she held her daughter under water and then let her dead body float down the Trinity River. Her brother told our affiliate in Chico who was in the courtroom that his sister is innocent. Pedreros' preliminary hearing is set for August 17th.
