Following the resignation of eureka unified school district superintendent Gregg Haulk, the district wasted no time in finding his replacement, naming current assistant superintendent of human resources Lee Ann Lanning interim superintendent…
Newschannel 3’s Cameron Cramer caught up with Lanning to speak with her about the big news…
"As soon as I heard the news I actually felt a sense of extreme excitement, enthusiasm and a real sense of it being a privilege." Said Lanning
Lanning has worn many hats in the Eureka Unified School District, at one time serving a psychologist, healthy start coordinator, and principal to name a few; now she’ll become superintendent, and she as she says, try to continue the work of former superintendent Gregg Haulk.
"I believe he has set us and the district on a really good path and what I see as my vision to move the district forward" Said Lanning
But moving forward will have its challenges; it begins with sluggish enrollment numbers, but it doesn’t end there:
"Obviouslyfinance, both state and federal are challenges as our resources dwindle as we are unsure in terms of the new budget that's been signed on what it will mean to us as a district." Said Lanning
But even with some hurdles to overcome, Lanning is anxious to begin the job she’s been preparing for the past twenty-four years, all spent in the district:
"I’m absolutely passionate about eureka city schools and to have an opportunity to provide leadership in this role is a wonderful thing to me, and I hope a wonderful thing for the district." Said Lanning
