Long Time Fortuna Business to Close Its Doors
Low's Furniture has announced that after nearly 60 years the Fortuna landmark is going out of business. Calling it the hardest decision he's ever had to make owner Travis Low says it's simply time, "the tough economy we are all facing today has definitely taken its toll on the furniture industry. We have had a great run but it's time to say good-bye and thank you to everyone."
Low's has been a mainstay in Fortuna's downtown at the corner of 9th and Main since 1953. Travis Low took over operation of the family business in 1988 when his father, Roger, the store's founder, retired. A Sleep Center in the old Eel River Justice Court building located behind the main store was added in 2002. A complete liquidation of all remaining merchandise is now underway.
