First it was rezoning, and now redistricting… the issue of redrawing boundaries for Humboldt County fell once again before the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors where they discussed potential changes to map 2A. Newschannel three’s Cameron Cramer was at the meeting and has more.
Supervisors and residents discussed potential changes to redistricting plan 2a, including possibly putting Weott in the 2nd district, and using precinct boundaries instead of the mad river in some scenarios near Arcata and Blue Lake… another was linking Fortuna and Rio Dell as community's of interest. Rio dell resident's say Fortuna is a vital part of their surroundings.
"Out students go elementary to Rio Dell and high school to Fortuna, we shop there. We also have affiliations with the sports team, and schools there." Said Rio Dell Resident Frank Wilson.
However some county residents still thought the plan could use work:
"The land mass of the county is rural and yet all the decisions get made for the rural areas that are unincorporated here in eureka." Said Humboldt County Resident Bonnie Blackberry
And while no map will be perfect for everyone the goal of the hearing was to let residents make their voices heard.
This is an important process because it makes sure that people are being equally and fairlyrepresented across the county in districts that make sense for their community's of concern." Said Supervisor Mark Lovelace.
