CALTRANS AWARDS $48.5 MILLION FOR SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL

48.5 million dollars will be provided to fund over one hundred safety projects for kids who walk and bicycle to school.<

Humboldt County will receive 452- thousand dollars.
Projects include: Raised sidewalks near Grant Elementary and McKinleyville High. The installment of crosswalks, lighting, l-e-d signs, and pavement markings near eagle prairie elementary and monument middle school. Caltrans says they chose each project based upon need, effectiveness, and how quickly it could be delivered. They say by improving safety, more kids are encouraged to walk and bicycle to school, resulting in healthier children while reducing injuries, fatalities, and greenhouse gas emissions.
