M.M.A. FIGHTER WYATT PLEADS GUILTY; 1st Degree Murder
Del Norte County -- The man accused of killing his mixed-martial-arts sparring partner, then mutilating his body, pleads guilty to 1st degree murder.
The Del Norte County District Attorney tells News Channel 3 that murder suspect Jarrod Wyatt pleaded guilty today to 1st degree felony murder by mayhem.
Wyatt is accused of killing his friend Taylor Powell back in March 2010. Authorities say Wyatt removed Powell's eyes, tongue and heart while allegedly under the influence of a hallucinogenic mushroom.
According to the District Attorney, Wyatt may serve 2 consecutive life sentences in prison, and may be eligible for parole 50 years from now. Sentencing is set for October 4th. Prior to Thursday's guilty plea, Wyatt was set to face a jury trial this coming Monday (September 10th).
