ARSON FIRE IN ARCATA

 Arcata police are investigating an arson fire that happened early this morning at the Valley West Shopping Center.
 
Fire fighters found the dumpster that was set on fire early today behind an alley. Once police arrived on the scene they were able to talk to some witnesses.
 
"Citizens reported numerous subjects fleeing the area. Officers arrived and located a fully engulfed dumpster."
 
The dumpster fire was put out immediately. However, police are investigating whether this fire is connected to recent arson fires in the area.
 
"Investigators are looking into the possibility of a nexus between the fires. However none has been discovered as of yet."
 
The dumpster is owned by arbor fright and lucky there was no damage to their building. However, a storage unit that is owned by the building owners was burned.
 
"Got there found the dumpster burning and extending to a part of a shed roof attached to the building."
 
The cost of the damage is unknown. And although no one has been found in connection with this fire, Arcata fire believes kids may have started it.
 
"This fire appears to may have been related to juveniles, we're not sure. We are going to work with law enforcement."
 
Arcata fire is also encouraging businesses to help out with the investigation.
 
"And we're working with some local businesses owners to see if there is security footage and find out who was involved."
 
No other fires or attempts at starting fires were located in the area.
