New Arcata Safety Project: Cable Barrier Along Hwy 101
Arcata, CA- In an effort to prevent cross median collisions in Arcata, Caltrans is installing a new cable barrier. Tonight Caltrans held an open house to officially present the project.
We’ve all seen median barriers that divide both flows of traffic on Hwy 101. Well in Arcata, there’s a little over a mile stretch of median that is completely open to anything that crosses over it. At a cost of almost a million dollars, Caltrans is choosing to fix the problem.
Recently, there was a cross median collision that involved multiple vehicles and injuries.
An investigator by the Traffic Safety Office determined earlier this year that the project is a great investment.
Shrubs will be cut, new grass laid down, and cable barriers will soon line the area. Construction will be completed by summer of 2014.
