Occupy Celebrates One Year Anniversary
Eureka, CA- It was a nation-wide protest challenging the American economic system and government policies. Today, Occupy Wall Street celebrates their one-year anniversary.
Humboldt County was also a small part of that movement that swept the nation and caused a lot of controversy. Today we look at the movement in our own front yard and ask the question: What was accomplished?
Today hundreds of protestors marched around the New York stock Exchange.
"Happy birthday to occupy wall street. We've survived for a year and still facing a lot of resistance from police and principalities of power," Says one protester.
As police arrest about a dozen people in the big apple; here in the small city of eureka, we found one representative from Occupy Eureka, who still stands firmly on the belief that change does not happen by staying at home.
"We had to reestablish that it's a part of the 99%. We really have the power. Not the 1% that own and corrupt and take everything."
