Eureka City Council is talking about taxing excessive energy use at their meeting Tuesday night. Arcata’s city council has already talked about it, now Eureka is recommending putting a tax on people who use excessive energy within city limits. Tomorrow’s agenda says it would be on residential properties. Arcata’s plan caused controversy concerning how the tax could potentially target marijuana grow houses that use “excessive energy.” City manager Dave Tyson says if the tax is something the city decides to move on it would not reach any ballots until November of 2014.
