Some frustrated Humboldt property owners gathered in Carlotta last night to vent their concerns about the hot-topic state responsibility area fire fee.

It was a packed room last night when we talked to some residents who were confused, had questions about the s-r-a fee, and to others were just plain upset.

"Who voted on this? I didn't."

Hydesville resident Ed Cushing was angry when he received the fee since he rents his property.

The SRA is a $150 dollar annual fee for property owners not covered in city limits or forest service land.
This controversial fee has many residents confused on how this fee was passed.

"I think it’s just completely ridiculous that they would send a bill to someone who lives in a mobile home park.”

Many of the people in attendance last night are on fixed incomes. We spoke to one resident who lives off social security and a little bit of retirement.

"Why should they keep doubling our fees on all this? We can't afford it."

Humboldt County Supervisor Rex Bohn was at the meeting last night to let residents know that cal fire and their local fire departments are not responsible for this fee.

"The biggest thing I have got to tell you, don't stop supporting your local volunteer fire department.”

The meeting last night was only an informational meeting. However we did speak to a representative from the Howard Jarvis taxpayers association who said they are days away from filing a lawsuit against the state of California.
