OFFICERS ASSAULTED, 3 ARRESTED: Garberville
Two officers injured and 3 suspects arrested after a fight breaks out in Southern Humboldt.
It started around 2:45 Thursday afternoon near Veterans Park in Garberville. Deputies say they were called to a fight in progress, they were directed to this man 20-year-old Justin Jones of Arizona.
When they tried to talk to Jones he ran. They caught up with him and tried to arrest him for being under the influence- then he started fighting the officers. One officer tried to tase Jones; it had no effect. Jones tried to grab the Taser from the second deputy who again attempted to tase Jones. A citizen ran to help the officers; at that point Jones had one officer in a bear hug and was kicking him. Then Jones’ girlfriend, 21-year-old Marie Burkhart of Costa Mesa, ran up trying to help Jones, she was arrested for interfering and also for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Meanwhile a crowd of nearly 40 people had gathered to watch what was happening, 24-year-old Robert Dale Irwin of San Jose was arrested for trying to incite a riot. The officers involved did not require medical treatment. Jones arrest landed him at the Humboldt county jail and his bail set at 25-thousand dollars.
