HTA OFFERS FREE BUS RIDES IN SOUTHERN HUMBOLDT ON TUESDAYS
In an effort to gain more riders, the Humboldt Transit Authority is offering free rides every Tuesday in October to travelers looking to go to and from Southern Humboldt. Gregg Pratt is the manager of HTA and says that since "Try It Tuesday" started in September, he’s seen rider ship go up 20 percent.Pratt says although they are meeting their quota, they're trying to gain awareness of the routes for the future of HTA. “There is a danger of the routes being cut if were not meeting a certain rider ship.”Robin Bruebaker and Morgan Edwards use the bus to get to from Garberville to Eureka and say they wouldn’t be able to get their son to a pediatrician if the route got cut. “We wouldn't be able to do anything, except be in Gaberville all the time,” Bruebaker said. Edwards adds that the price of taking the bus can’t be beat."The rates are really good right now,” Edwards said. “They beat the gas prices.”The College of the Redwoods is a very popular bus stop because students from all over Humboldt County use the routes to get to and from school.Pratt says that along with free Tuesday’s they’re adding bus routes on Sunday starting the first week of November.
